Halloween Archery Empty Halloween Archery

Post by masorin Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:13 pm

Malin sighed as he set up the field with the targets that they would be using for the day. With the season getting so close to Halloween Malin figured that a themed class would be good not just for the students but also evaluations, and so the targets he had set up today looked surprisingly more human then usual.

along the field were 30 or so human targets all arranged to look like they were staggering. they were manikins stolen from the fashion design classes that the school held. all arranged in torn up clothing and their heads replaced with 2 dollar pumpkins. giving them the look of zombies.

Malin began to set up the lines tossing out the bow's and arrows and of course taking out his own longbow different from the short bow's that the students used. his bow allowed for more range and had a two string system, it was easily recognized as a hunting long bow. Malin breathed the crisp Autumn air this was the last class for the day but he had spent his free period setting up the numerous targets, and now he sat back waiting for his class to arrive.

Halloween Archery Empty Re: Halloween Archery

Post by Kira Yagami Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:55 pm

Kira walks towards the archery field with two bags with him, one being his gear from his last class, Martial Arts, and the other being his gear for archery, it was noting special other then his wrist guard and a few various items he had for archery, including extra string and a few different type of arrows. Also in there is something nobody else knows about, there is seven throwing knives in a hidden pocket he uses from time to time when nobody is around, their sharp tip easily sank into the targets and into the hay behind them.

As he reaches the field he looks around and seeing that he is first, he sets down his bags near the first station and then reaches into his martial arts bag and pulls out a little ointment and applies it to his sore right triceps and then tosses it back into the bag before grabbing his wrist guard and putting it on. He could not afford to mes up his right arm, it is what allows him to both teach and practice the martial arts, and with out it, he would go insane.

Kyouya approached his final class, Archery. He wasn't exactly looking forward to it as it only reminded him of his past but, he figured an easy A is an easy A. So he signed up for the class regardless. When he saw that the targets were humanoid in nature his heart sank even further. As if shooting wasn't bad enough, they would be shooting people on top of it. Kyouya fought back the flashbacks as he was quickly becoming accustomed to doing and took a position next to the student already there. He didn't bother with any sort of protective gear as years spent in guerrilla warfare had callused him immensely. Kyouya waited for further instruction from the teacher, Mr. Nalar.

Halloween Archery Empty Re: Halloween Archery

Post by Izumi Yamanaka Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:27 pm

Step, step, pause, step. A frown came on her face as she felt something stabbing into her foot. Izumi sighed and leaned onto the building for support as she quickly took off her shoe, and then banged it against the wall. Sure enough a soft 'clink' of rock hitting the pavement reached her ears. Satisfied that her small dilemma was solved, her legs moved faster in a brisk power walk towards the shooting range where her next was being held.

The first person she saw was the student/semi-teacher (?) from her previous class, martial arts. From there was another student, a blonde like her, though, it looked more like a sandy-brown kind of blonde compared to her sunny-golden shade. Her eyes then quickly glanced at their teacher. First impression: harsh and cold - avoid at all costs.

Izumi continued her fast-paced walk and settled next to the blonde. She didn't touch any of the equipment laying on her station. Even though she had had one small lesson in Archery, she wasn't confident enough to wield it without accidentally shooting someone. And the zombie-like targets wouldn't help either if and when she was shooting while some neanderthal came running by. She'd think he or she was part of the range - a moving target.

Malin looked over the class and drew his first arrow hitching it to his long bow as he kept his focus on the students. "Today class.. the school is under attack from the zombie menace. As it is only a head shot will kill the slow and shambling horde, and there are enough in this field to overtake and infect us all."

He turned on his heel and pulled back on the arrow breathing as he kept the line tight. taking his aim and marking his target he loosed the arrow and sent it colliding into the 'head' of a zombie on the far left of the field. its pumpkin brains splattered the side of the manikin.

"The rules are simple aim for the head, I will count your head shots, and anyone who fails to kill their share of the horde will have to stay after class to help me clean up." He looked over his class most of them seemed depressed he had spent an hour setting up this encounter, and they had better cheer the hell up before he shot an arrow at one of them. "Understood?"

Z ran to his last class of the day, archery. He was late. He had forgotten to well at his schedule, and, when he found out that archery was a replacement for gym, thought it would be, well, in the gym. It wasn't. And, he figured that out rather fast. But, that did not help him get to class any faster. It looked like they had already started. luckily he was behind everyone, not in the target direction of their bows. So, he ran up and yelled "SORRY! I WENT TO THE WRONG ROOM!" Before he stopped a moment to catch his breath, and looked around in the meantime.

Post by Kira Yagami Sat Oct 15, 2011 11:02 pm

Kira sighs as the new kid comes to the field and then finally takes a look at the person next to him, it was instantly clear to him the man was a killer and from the looks of things a reluctant one, the only reason he could tell is because his calluses matched those of many of the solders he had trained with in the past. Looking at the new kid, wanting to get away from the killer next to him he says "Hey dude you can take my lane, from the looks of things you probably could do with as much standing still as you can get.",

Kira picks up his bags and walks over to the lane next to Izumi and nods to her and then sets his bag down and looks down at her bow, seeing the string is frayed. Reaching into his archery bag he pulls out a new one and asks "may I fix that for you?".

Kyouya raised an eyebrow at the curious request of the boy in front of him. However, he attempted to push it out of mind until he saw what he was really after. The boy intended to flirt with the girl who had come only shortly after he had. Kyouya shrugged and turned to the targets. "Zombies, eh?" he muttered to himself as the instructor spoke. When he asked if they understood Kyouya relapsed a bit replying, "Sir, yes sir!" rather than a typical yes, Mr. Nalar. Kyouya didn't notice the mistake though, as he picked up the bow and knocked his first arrow. He took up the appropriate stance, his set like a batter at a baseball game. He held the bow in his non-dominant hand and drew back on the bow with his other hand, left and right respectively. Kyouya carefully aimed at the manikin as it was a theoretical kill or be killed scenario.

Her instincts were right about their teacher. Izumi clicked her tongue to suppress a shiver as the pumpkin head of the zombie was shot to pieces. In the end she let out a small 'yes, sir' before turning around to face the boy who had just yelled out his presence.

Seeing his slightly haggard appearance made her smile a little, and she found it funny how he had gone to the wrong room. Cute. Hopefully he'll be a ray of sunshine to counter their teacher's obviously cold attitude.

Izumi then raised a brow in question as Kira took the lane next to hers (vacating the first lane for the late student). After taking the her bow in hand and looking at the strings, Izumi shrugged and handed Kira her bow.

------- GMing Malin Nalar + NPCing new teacher -------

Just as Malin was about to scold at the new kid some other person decided to interrupt his class. With a cold glance and then a jerk to the empty first lane directed at the kid, he then turned to the other faculty member.

"Alright, what is it? We're defending the school from zombies so make it quick," he stared blankly at the woman before him.

Retsu Kanda was her name if he remembered correctly. The second in line coach if he needed to go elsewhere for his second job.

"The Deputy Headmistress wants to talk to you about your second job. I'm here to fill in," she responded, her tone was equally as frosty as his.

Malin glanced at his hour work and then to the few students who signed up, "All yours."

Then he walked off with bow in hand.

Z saw the cold stares given to him by the teacher and it freaked him out. He was kind of glad when the new person came in to teach the class. Got the cold death stare off of him. So, Z picked up a bow and notched an arrow, just as he saw Kyouya do. It was tricky work to pull it back, but was interesting. Then, Z thought over the geometry in his head. The arrow would form a parabola opening downward, so, Zee aimed a little higher than the top of the head of the nearest "zombie." He looked around briefly, and accidentally let go of the string. The good news was that he hit the "zombie" smack dab in the middle of the forehead. The bad news was, his arm was in incredible pain. "Sskatááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááá!!!!!!!!!!!!!" he yelled, dropping the bow and waving his arm in the air. The bow string had ran against his arm as he let it go. It hurt. Bad. Z was surprised nothing worse left his mouth, actually. He looked at his arm. There was a giant red spot. Thankfully, he had apparently not had the worst of experiences, for the pain subsided after only ten seconds or so. "Jeez, that HURT. I can see why you wear that thing," Z said, aiming the comment at Kira.

Post by Kira Yagami Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:46 pm

kira ignoring the new teacher quickly takes off Izumi's old string and puts the new one on with ease, not having much trouble with getting it taught he hands it back to her and then picks up his own bow, knocking an arrow and letting it fly, after having taken this class in the past he had become a pretty good shot and watched the pumpkin explode into pieces. Setting down his bow Kira reaches into his bag and slides three of his knives into his sleeve, and then lets the slide into his pocket discretely. To cover the reason for reaching into his bag, Kira pulls out three broad tipped hunting arrows and lays them next to the bow.

Jerking his head up at the scream he looks over at the new kid and sighs, before unclasping his arm guard and walking it over to him, having been cut all over his arm and hit there over and over again he was used to the pain, not immune to it, but used to it. "here you go, though if the other teacher catches you with it before you earn the right to use it, he will kill you," He says as he tosses it to him and returns back to his lane, slightly annoyed that he probably would not get time to play with his knives in class.

Once the first shots were fired, Kyouya let fly his own arrow. It flew elegantly through the air, finding its mark with ease. The pumpkin shattered as the arrow broke the skin and pierced the placebo. Kyouya was used to this sort of thing and started to have a flash back to a time when he fought in the trenches and it was head shots or nothing. Kyouya quickly knocked another arrow with speed and precision. He let loose the arrow, the arrow finding a new target. Kyouya continued like this until he reached down and grasped at the air of his empty quiver, a slew of headless targets in front of him. Kyouya took the bow in hand like one would a pole arm and was about to rush at the targets when the flash back ended and he remembered where he was. Kyouya held his head in his hand as he pushed back the old memories.

Izumi nodded and took her bow back from Kira before taking an arrow, and knocking it in place. Carefully she lifted it up at eye level, drew a breathe, then pull the string so that the top flat part of her hand was touching her chin. After closing her non-dominant eye she fixed her target sight, Izumi released the arrow and her held breathe. The bow did not drop until she was sure it hit her target.

Unlike the two boys on either side of her, Izumi's arrow was a bit off target; hitting the mouth. Huffing at her ill placed arrow, she loaded up another one and right when she released it Sunshine (as she took to calling him in her head) yell in pain causing her arrow to fly elsewhere. Catching a glimpse of his reddened arm, Izumi was about to offer him help, but Kira beat her to him - actually giving him his arm guard. She still didn't know what to think of him.

"Hey, you okay?" Izumi called out to Sunshine.

Then her eyes widen at the other boy (she didn't know his name yet so Izumi dubbed him Sandy). He was like a machine - kept firing and firing until he was out of ammo.

Completely forgetting her manners Izumi addressed him, "Hey Sandy. That was pretty shootin' there. How'd you get so good?"

-------NPC-------

Retsu casually leaned back as she watched two of the four students nail the zombie suckers. She smirked. Since it was an even number they can probably teach each other while she just observed them. Just as Retsu was about to take a seat on the folded chair, the boy in the first lane yelled. Sighing, she headed over, but apparently she wasn't needed. Boy from fourth lane gave him his arm guard.

"Right then," Retsu clapped her hands for their attention. "Since this is a small class - pair up and help each other out. Experienced with the newbies, got it? Just yell if you need something."

Z graciously accepted the arm band. It would help should what just happen happen again, which he hoped it wouldn't. In reply to the girl, he said "O'm fine. Thanks for asking," with a smile, rubbing his arm as he put on the arm gaurd. Then he saw the others shooting off practically continuous strings of them, and heard the teacher say they should pair off. He immediately started walking over to Kyouya, though kinda slowly, so that if he paired off first, it would look like he was just walking. Then, again, there were only two choices, so, yeah. Z didn't care all that much.

Listening to the teacher, immediately his gaze turns to the soldier who is firing off arrow after arrow, but seeing him taken Kira chuckles slightly and then glances at the golden haired goddess next to him."looks like it is you and me again" Kira says as he reaches for one of the hunting arrows and knocks it before aiming for a pumpkin three lanes away, letting go of the string as he exhales he watches the arrow fly true and hit it's target, causing the squash to explode like the last one he hit. "Chances are you are better at this then I am" Kira says as he knocks another arrow I have only taken a school years worth of lessons, and they were...interesting. Kira recalled all of the odd lessons last year and lets the arrow fly, sighing as it hits the base of the pumpkin behind the one he had just shot.

Kyouya sighed slightly as the teacher announced that they would be pairing up and teaching the less inclined. Lazy-ass teacher. he thought to himself. Kyouya looked to the boy, Z. "Looks like it'll be me and you, that other kid wants to hit on the girl behind me." Kyouya walked over to Z and helped him with his stance, throwing his bow on the ground for now. He took off the arm guard the other boy had given Z and tossed it on his bag. He then kicked at Z's feet until they were properly aligned, the front one slightly behind the back one. He then returned Z's bow to his hand. Kyouya saw the common mistake that led to the welt now festering on his arm. Kyouya twisted Z's elbow so that it did not protrude into the string's path but, could still be kept in a locked position. Kyouya knocked an arrow for Z, "Go ahead and shoot now. You won't hit yourself if you keep that elbow where I put it." Kyouya instructed. Right now, he didn't care if he hit the target, he was watching Z's elbow.

Seeing as Sandy completely ignored her, and seeing as if Sunshine knew him - Izumi really was stuck with Mr. High-and-Mighty. Ugh. If only Sandy hadn't passed her off to Kira, then she would have avoided him like the plague.

She clicked her tongue in annoyance before forcing a smile on her face, "Yeah..."

Whatever. Besides, she felt that she knew enough of the basics to do some trial and error. Yup, no help needed at all. As he was speaking to her again, Izumi hummed in acknowledgement. She took her bow back up and notched her arrow. Glancing at Kira's direction, Izumi felt her simmering temper almost blow up. Her better than him? At this? He was practically decimating the poor line of zombies, much like Sandy had before he ran out of arrows.

"Oh really?" Izumi replied, keeping her voice even before muttering under breathe, "Jerk."

Mentally calming herself down she then followed the same process she gone through earlier. Unfortunately, Izumi was too busy being in a pissed mood that she forgot to angle her bow a bit causing the string to barely scraped the side of her breast.

"Shit. No wonder some girls have those guards." Izumi didn't bother to look where her arrow landed. Her free hand came up and rubbed the stinging spot on her chest.

------- NPC Teacher: Retsu Kanda -------

Satisfied that they were somewhat getting along and easily partnered up, Retsu merely grinned at her luck. But before she left she said to the girl, "Next time, wear something thicker than that blouse of yours. Won't hurt as much."

Then she returned to her post nearby, happily sitting on a chair and merely enjoying the sun. Heck, she even glanced the students just to make sure they were doing alright.

Z let Kyouya push him into the right stance. He did not want to hurt his arm anymore. He kept the stance well, keeping his elbow just the way Kyouya said yo, and tilted the bow up just a bit, in order to make a parabola again. He had no clue what type of parabola it would make, but he had done it pretty perfectly last time, so he figured he would make the same one. He looked upward just a bit, and released the bow, keeping his elbow locked right where he had been told to. The arrow flew through the air, right up to one of the last pumpkin targets in the front row. Then it swooped downward. And to the side. The wind had caught it. It completely missed the "zombie." And landed in the grass, Thankfully, his arm was fine. Z tried again, this time getting a bit closer. Each time he tried, he got better at compensating for wind. By his fifth arrow, he had hit the Zombie. By his eighth, he was hitting its head. On the tenth, he hit the zombie, right in the forehead. "OH YEAH!" he yelled with his success.

"Shit. No wonder some girls have those guards." Kira hears come from the mouth of the girl next to him, instantly knowing what had just happened, it was one of the more common mistakes in the class last year, and usually the one that caused the most trips to the clinic. Looking down at her feet, with a bit of a jealous sigh, yet again she had a beautiful stance seeing only one major flaw in it, the position of her foot. "Yet again with the beautiful stance, I swear you are going to drive me insane with envy " Kira says as he uses his foot to slide her foot to point straight at a pumpkin right next to the one she had just shot Where your front foot points, is where your arrow will fly, much like punch or a front kick, oh and as for that issue with the string and attacking you, just angle your bow more". His voice was not condescending but rather that of one whom has taught countless classes to people in the past.

as soon as he did his best to help Izumi, he glances at the teacher and glares at her in a slight manor because she is acting like the exact opposite of how a teacher should act. Not only is she not actually doing anything, but she is also making snide comments to the students. Looking right at her he mouths "[color=red][do your job/color]".

Kyouya heard the small cry of pain come from the girl a couple lanes over. He patted Z on the back and told him, "Keep working on that aim and remember to keep that elbow twisted out. You're doing great." before walking over to her. Kyouya looked her up and down before raising an eyebrow. "Perhaps I should have helped you instead. Not that he's doing a bad job, your stance would be perfect, if you were male." Kyouya flashed a grin at the boy standing on the other side of the girl. "First, allow your front foot to slide just a tad over to your left." Kyouya gently pushed her foot to indicate the proper placement. "Next," he placed his hands on her shoulders, "turn your shoulders just a slight bit." Kyouya turned her so that her left breast was slightly behind her right one in the line of sight. "Now comes the awkward part for most girls. When you pull back on the string, allow it to rest on your breast just here." Kyouya drew a vertical line down her chest where the string was most likely to be when she drew the bow, "And when you aim, place the arrow in your sight so that it is right below your eye then, find a way to mark it to yourself like placing your thumb at the corner of your mouth or something like that so, that you draw the same way every time. You got all that? I know it's kind of a lot to take in at once but, it really is just because you're female that makes this that much more difficult." Kyouya watched her take her next shot to ensure that she was doing everything right.

Post by Izumi Yamanaka Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:22 pm

Izumi decided that today was just being a downright bitch, especially when it concerned Kira. True, he was only being a gentleman (what girl wouldn't want that?) but he praised her too much, and she wasn't used to that. It was always:

Oh! That's the girl? Eww... Let's just leave the cleaning to her. Don't wanna help a backstabber like her.

Yeah! Let's just bail out.

But as much as Izumi wanted to just drop the bow and stop everyone from trying to be too friendly with her, she had to 'man' up (huh... how ironic, considering she was just using a male's stance earlier) and stick with it. Despite how sincere they were in helping her, Izumi couldn't help but feel that there was an ulterior motive behind everything and it was giving her a headache.

Too tired to argue or push either Kira or Sandy away, Izumi let her body go in on auto-pilot. She shifted her body the way Kira had told her to do it, but moved again to conform to Sandy's wayith his gentle prodding. Nodding to Sandy and Kira, Izumi lifted her bow, pulled, took aim, and mentally checked if she got everything that her two classmates were advising her on. Then... she released her arrow and didn't let her bow drop until it hit the zombie on the nose.

She hummed in thought then said to them with a slightly tired but small smile, "Thanks for the help guys."

Z looked over at how the other two guys in class were both hovering around the only girl. It looked like they had a motive... besides just helping her out. And, it was obvious she thought this too, and was annoyed by it, yet, Kyouya and the other guy seemed to be completely oblivious. Z sighed, and then yelled over at them "Hey, I think we should ho ouy and retrieve our spent arrows.Everyone is either out, or almost out." It was true. All of them were running low on arrows. Z waited till the others agreed and Izumi put down her bow before walking out onto the course. He grabbed each arrow and pulled it out of wherever it was lodged, be it in the ground of in a pumpkin. He had said that when he did, because it would be a prime opportunity for the girl to get away from the others for a moment. Z shot a smile in her direction, not really meaning anything by it, but doing it nonetheless. Then, he returned back to his lane, twisting the ends of the arrows to they would be tight, since most of them were loosened when he took them out of where they had landed. That was one of the few things Z had already known about archery.

Halloween Archery Empty Re: Halloween Archery

Post by Kira Yagami Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:39 am

Kira chuckled as the soldier helped Izumi with her stance, it was like Kira had said earlier, his only experience with archery was the class he had taken last school year, and there was a reason he was in charge of the Martial Arts Club, and not the archery club. nice shot he says as the pumpkin dies a horrid death via arrow.

Kira, due to having both taken this class before and having been to several firing ranges in the past, does not cross the firing line when prompted to by the kid he had helped earlier. The reason was a rather simple one, and yet one that could cost the life of someone down the road; The range master, in this case Retsu Kanada did not call the range cold. Having dealt with Mr. Nalar and watching him have students suspended for stepping over the line before he said so, he did not plan to test the new teacher, though he was pretty sure she was not going to do anything. Hell, she did not even bother to even try and teach the class anything.

Once the shot had been fired and the girl's stance was nearly perfect, as well as, having deadly aim, Kyouya took a seat back at his station. He would spend the rest of the class meditating. Not the "Ooom" crap you see on TV or read about on blogs but, real meditation, the way it was meant to be. He cleared his mind of all thought and quieted all the sounds around him. He didn't go into his usual depth so that he could hear the bell go off, signifying the changing of classes but, a heard of stampeding elephants could have ran around him and he would have been none the wiser.

Halloween Archery Empty Re: Halloween Archery

Although she still had a few more arrows in her quiver, Izumi nodded to Sunshine and placed her bow down on the ground before following him into the range. After a few feet in, she turned around, grinned at Sandy and Kira, and then yelled out, "Y'all better not try to hit us!"

Once she was in range of Sunshine she returned his smile in thanks. Call it women's intuition, but Izumi knew that he had suggested this in order for her to get away from them - not that they were doing anything bad; they just overwhelming her.

------- Retsu Kanda -------

She rolled her eyes at kid who had just glared at her and told her to do 'her' job. Puh-leez. Like she was ever going to do her dominant personality's job, But it pays the bills and my mounting collection of manga. Retsu shook her head then stood and stretched out before walking over to the students - well, currently, it was only the two experienced ones; the other two were down further near the range attempting to retrieve the arrows.

Clapping, once again, to gain their attention, "Alright, class is over. Just leave your bows on the ground and I'll take care of it."

Then she took a few steps forward in the direction of the range, "HEY KIDS! GET BACK OVER HERE! YOU'RE FREE TO GO, CLASS JUST ENDED. AND LEAVE THE EQUIPMENT THERE."

------- Izumi Yamanaka -------

Just as she was about to pull the arrow from her first shot Izumi heard the teacher yelling her final instructions. Izumi looked at Sunshine and waved her good-bye, "I'll see ya' later, Sunshine."

Then she jogged back to Kira and Sandy, got her things, and also waved to them in parting.

"Bye guys," she said as she sped out of there.
